CHINESE OPERA CAMP CHINA

AME is organizing an intercultural 8-day Chinese Opera Camp in Suzhou, China with the practical development of a performance of one of the most traditional operas in China, the Kun Opera. This course is designed to help students build an overall concept on Kun Opera, and experience the authentic Chinese culture.

Kun opera is one of the oldest extant forms of Chinese opera. It dominated Chinese theatre over 200 years. The style originated in the Wu cultural area. It is listed as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2001.

This course mainly focuses on the Chinese instruments, body movements, and dressing to lead students to experience what happens in the performance.

Suzhou has a history of over 4000 years indicated by the historical records. It has given birth to many remarkable scholars and it is famous as the home for 'Zhuang yuan'. Suzhou has a high reputation on its paintings, calligraphy, opera, medicine and architecture, and it also enjoys great reputation at home and abroad in its traditional handicrafts such as embroidery and Taohuawu woodcut picture.
